Zhang Qingyang (born 1995), known professionally as Crazy Little Brother Yang[1] (疯狂小杨哥, Fēngkuáng xiǎo yáng gē), is a prominent Chinese social media influencer and entrepreneur. He gained widespread recognition on Douyin, the Chinese counterpart of TikTok, where he became the platform's most-followed individual in March 2022, surpassing Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau.​

Early Life and Career

Zhang was born in Anhui province, China. He began creating short-form video content in 2015 on Kuaishou, China's second largest video platform. In 2018, along with his twin brother, he opened a Douyin account which gained popularity for the "desperate weekend" video series.[2] These videos often had depict humorous family situations and thus appealed to a large audience.

Rise to Prominence

Zhang became the first person to reach 100 million followers[3] on Douyin by November 2022. He was able to greatly appeal to his audience with his humorous content that consisted of family related day to day activities.

Business Ventures

Zhang has also expanded his business into e-commerce. In January 2023, his live-streaming sales alone reached a gross merchandise volume of around 538 million yuan but his activity changed in the following months.

Controversies

In September 2023, Zhang and his company, Three Sheep, faced a fine of 68.9 million yuan (US$9.83 million) for falsely claiming that certain mooncakes were sourced from Hong Kong.​[4]

Recognition

In 2023, the Guangdong E-commerce Summit Forum reported Zhang's annual net income at 3.21 billion yuan (US$451 million), underscoring his influence and success in China's digital landscape.​[5]
