The term columnist refers to a writer who writes for a newspaper in a series of articles, each of which contains comments and personal thoughts. Columns appear in a variety of outlets, including newspapers, periodicals, and blogs, among others. They are written in the style of a brief essay by a single author who expresses his or her own point of view. Columns produced by composites or teams of writers have appeared in certain publications under pseudonyms or (in effect) brand names in other publications. The same information is reprinted in book collections by certain columnists, who appear on a daily or weekly basis in their respective publications.
