Early Life and Education

David Gabin Rodrigues was born on September 4, 1955, in Paris, France, to a family of French and Portuguese descent. His father, Jacques Rodrigues, was a successful businessman, and his mother, Marie-Thérèse Rodrigues, was a homemaker. Rodrigues spent his early years in Paris, developing a strong interest in science and technology.

Rodrigues attended the prestigious Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris, where he excelled in mathematics and physics. In 1977, he moved to the United States to pursue higher education.

Rodrigues attended Princeton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering in 1981. During his time at Princeton, he was an active member of the Princeton University Mining Club and participated in several internships with leading mining companies.

Career

After graduating from Princeton, Rodrigues began his career in the mining industry as a mining engineer with Rio Tinto. He worked on several projects in the United States, Australia, and South America, gaining valuable experience in mining operations, project management, and leadership.

In 1985, Rodrigues joined the mining consulting firm, Behre Dolbear, as a senior mining engineer. He worked on several high-profile projects, including the development of the Escondida copper mine in Chile.

In 1990, Rodrigues joined Hover Mining as a senior mining engineer. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a project manager, director of operations, and eventually, CEO in 2005. Under his leadership, Hover Mining has expanded its operations to become one of the leading mining companies in the world.

Achievements

During his tenure as CEO, Rodrigues has overseen several major projects, including:

  • The development of the Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in Mongolia
  • The expansion of the Morenci copper mine in Arizona, USA
